Looking for a life-long sport for your children to learn? Try tennis. Unlike many athletics, tennis is a sport that can be learned as a child and enjoyed by every age group and ability through-out life. If you can hold a racquet, you can play tennis at some level! The St. Charles Junior Tennis Association is a community tennis organization created under the United States Tennis Association’s Community Tennis Association guidelines.
Under the guidance of Tim Matacio, this association focuses on the QuickStart Tennis Lesson Program for young children from October through April. The QuickStart Tennis format arranges kids into two age groups: 8 & under and 10 & under. It employs an exciting new playing format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring. Kids will have more fun while learning and developing their skills by playing with kid-sized equipment, and playing with their peers of similar abilities.
Now any child between ages five and ten can start playing tennis almost immediately-even if he or she has never picked up a racquet before. QuickStart stresses the importance of play and team competition. This new format encourages children to have fun playing with their friends while developing skills that will become the foundation of their game.
During spring, summer and fall, St. Charles Junior Tennis Association offers outdoor tennis classes for all ages and skill levels – including those playing at the high school level and competing in USTA tournaments. As the Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis Coach for St. Charles North High School, Tim Matacio is well suited to guide the beginning player on up to a competitive junior level.
