If you are a restaurant, it is one thing to say that fresh ingredients are used in the menu. But to build the scope of the entire business around utilizing only the freshest of foods is completely different, and not so easy to do. Preservation Bread & Wine, located on Third Street in Geneva, translates the concept into reality.
Preservation Bread & Wine is a cafe and wine bar focused on preserving traditional preparation methods to offer flavorful sandwiches, cheeses, meats, savory bites and desserts paired with a first class selection of wine, beer and spirits. The rustic exposed brick walls are attractively decorated with the owner’s artwork, whose artistic talents show up in food presentation as well.
The seasonality of many ingredients dictates what is offered on the menu, meaning the menu may change because of an ingredient’s availability. You’ll always find wonderful menu selections under several main categories, including:
- Cheese Plates with accompaniments artfully served on a slate plate
- Charcuterie Plate which features unique prepared sausages, ham, etc.
- Cold Sandwiches
- Warm Sandwiches
- Soups, both chilled and hot selections
- Savory Bites such as a wild mushroom tart or baked macaroni and cheese
- Desserts like a lemon cream tartlet with fresh fruit or a chocolate espresso tart
If you think it may be difficult to choose what to eat, you may have an even bigger quandary when you choose what to drink! The wine list is outstanding, with numerous selections by the glass, and even more choices if you are purchasing a bottle. One of the owners is a sommelier, so if you would like help in choosing your wine, Preservation Bread & Wine is well qualified to assist. A selection of cocktails, craft and foreign beers, along with hot and cold non-alcoholic beverages are also offered.
Besides the wine, bread is incorporated into the restaurant’s title for a very good reason. The café’s other partner is a graduate of the French Pastry School in Chicago. All bread is baked fresh each day on the premises, and is available for sale. Breads offered include baguette, focaccia, sourdough, brioche and country rolls.
Although the taste of food is imperative to a menu item’s success, presentation is of utmost importance at Preservation Bread & Wine, too. Your food selections will not only taste good, they will look good as well, which speaks to the creative talents of both owners. Their creativity resulted in an award at the 2010 Geneva Festival of the Vine. Out of 19 participating restaurants in the Flavor Fare, Preservation Bread & Wine received the first Lencioni Best Presentation Award from the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.
Gift certificates and WiFi are available. Open for lunch and dinner, the café is also the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine and a cheese plate or savory bite with friends anytime!
